On March 28, 2026, Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram visited the Sichuan Tianfu Belt and Road Commercial Mediation Center and the Chengdu Representative Office of the Belt and Road Legal Services Alliance at Chengdu, China. During his visit, he held a comprehensive meeting with the management of the mediation center to discuss avenues for cooperation and collaboration in the field of dispute resolution. The meeting was held at the Headquarters of Sichuan Lawyers Association office at Chengdu, China.
The management of the Sichuan Tianfu Belt and Road Commercial Mediation Center included Mr. Deng Yong, Vice President of the Sichuan Provincial Lawyers Association, Director of the Mediation Center, and Director of the Chengdu Representative Office; Mr. Zhang Jian, Deputy Director of the Working Committee for the Substantive Operation of the Mediation Center; Mr. Wu Fan and Mr. Xu Zixuan, representatives of the Mediation Center; and Ms. Lu Yuanyuan and Ms. Liu Jiani, Deputy Directors of the Chengdu Representative Office.
The discussion focused on exploring future cooperation mechanisms between the International Dispute Resolution Institute (IDI) and the Sichuan Tianfu Belt and Road Commercial Mediation Center. Both sides exchanged views on establishing a structured cooperation framework, including the initiation of an IDI Center–led lawyer exchange program aimed at enhancing professional capacity, knowledge sharing, and cross-border legal expertise.
During the meeting, Mr. Deng Yong highly appreciated the work and growing contributions of the International Dispute Resolution Institute (IDI) in advancing mediation and arbitration practices in Pakistan. He acknowledged the Institute’s efforts in promoting structured dialogue, capacity building, and legal awareness initiatives, which have significantly contributed to strengthening alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in the region.
Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram also commended the pivotal role of the Sichuan Tianfu Belt and Road Commercial Mediation Center and the Belt and Road Legal Services Alliance in fostering international legal cooperation and facilitating effective dispute resolution across jurisdictions under the Belt and Road Initiative.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both expressed their mutual interest in formalizing cooperation and agreed to work towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), including mediation, arbitration, and legal capacity-building initiatives.
The meeting marked an important step towards enhancing institutional linkages and promoting international cooperation in the field of dispute resolution between Pakistan and China.
