On 19 January 2026, a delegation representing China’s electric vehicle (EV) industry met with Mr. Zahid Rafiq, Chairman of Habib Rafiq Engineering (Pvt.) Ltd., in Lahore. The Chinese EV automobile delegation is being hosted in Pakistan by Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, who is facilitating engagements with key public and private sector stakeholders to promote and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the automobile and new energy sectors.
During the meeting, in-depth discussions were held on potential areas of collaboration, including electric vehicle manufacturing, technology transfer, localization of production, supply chain development, and the promotion of sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility solutions in Pakistan. The dialogue underscored the strong interest of leading Chinese EV companies in Pakistan’s rapidly expanding automotive market and industrial ecosystem.
Both sides exchanged views on Pakistan’s evolving regulatory framework for electric vehicles, investment incentives, and the country’s long-term vision for green transportation and energy transition. The discussions also highlighted opportunities for joint ventures, research and development collaboration, skills development, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at supporting the growth of the EV industry in Pakistan.
The meeting concluded with a shared understanding to continue consultations, explore concrete investment opportunities, and enhance cooperation in advancing electric mobility solutions that contribute to economic growth, technological advancement, and sustainable development. The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to deepening Pakistan–China collaboration in the electric vehicle and new energy sectors, in line with broader bilateral economic and industrial cooperation frameworks.
