On 26th September 2025, Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), participated as a distinguished speaker at the seminar on “27 September – Remembrance Day: The Great Heroism.” The event was jointly organized by NUST Business School (NBS) and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan at the Heydar Aliyev Auditorium, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad.
In his keynote address, Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram shed light on the significance of Remembrance Day, which is observed annually on 27th September in Azerbaijan to honor and mourn the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War, known as the “Patriotic War.” He highlighted how the 44-day war, which began on 27 September 2020, ended with Azerbaijan’s decisive victory under the leadership of President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. He also emphasized Azerbaijan’s resilience in the face of aggression and the solidarity between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
His Excellency Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, delivered an impactful address, recounting the history of the conflict and elaborating on the courage of the Azerbaijani people. He recalled that President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on 2 December 2020 to officially designate September 27 as Remembrance Day.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, was the chief guest at the seminar, commended Ambassador Farhadov for his detailed account of the Patriotic War and lauded Azerbaijan’s steadfast defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Other distinguished speakers included Major General (Retd.) Muhammad Arif Malik, Pro-Rector (Planning & Resources) at NUST, and Professor Dr. Adam Saud, Dean and Principal of the School of Social Sciences at Bahria University, Islamabad. Each spoke to the importance of remembering past sacrifices as a foundation for future cooperation and peace.
The seminar also reflected on Azerbaijan’s 2023 security operations in Karabakh, during which ancestral lands long under occupation were liberated and constitutional order was restored across Azerbaijan’s territories.
It concluded with heartfelt tributes to Azerbaijan’s martyrs and a reaffirmation of the enduring friendship and brotherhood between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
