Cultural Event titled “Understanding Xizang” jointly organized by COMSATS University & China Media Group (CMG) at Islamabad

On 3rd November 2025, COMSATS University Islamabad, in collaboration with China Media Group (CMG), hosted a culturally enriching and intellectually engaging event titled “Understanding Xizang”. The event aimed to promote cultural understanding and strengthen people to people ties between Pakistan and China.

The event highlighted the historical heritage, socio economic transformation, and cultural diversity of the Xizang Autonomous Region, offering insights into its development journey under China’s modern growth model. Students, academics, researchers, and educationists actively participated, acknowledging the initiative as an important platform for enhancing cross cultural awareness and cooperation.

Mr. Huzaifa Rehman, Minister of State and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, praised China’s inclusive and people centric development approach. He stated that Xizang stands as a successful example of how modern progress, cultural harmony, and environmental protection can advance together. He also commended CMG’s efforts in promoting mutual understanding between Pakistan and China.

Mr. Chen Peng, Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of China in Pakistan, shared Xizang’s remarkable development journey from one of the least developed regions to an area now excelling in education, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology. He emphasized China’s commitment to balanced progress, cultural preservation, ecological sustainability, and strengthening cooperation with Pakistan.

Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), highlighted the significance of initiatives like “Understanding Xizang” in encouraging academic collaboration and cultural harmony. He commented that such programs foster intellectual discourse, peace, and regional cooperation.

Mr. Moin ul Haque, Former Ambassador of Pakistan to China, noted that Pakistan China friendship transcends governmental ties, flourishing strongly at the people-to-people level. Recalling his visit to Xizang, he admired its modern infrastructure, high literacy rate, and strong social cohesion, calling them reflections of China’s sustainable development model.

Mr. Hassan Daud Butt, Former CEO of KP Board of Investment, emphasized that China’s rapid development is the result of visionary leadership and collective commitment. He stated that Xizang serves as a unique model where tradition and modernity coexist, contributing to sustainable development.

Professor Dr. Sohail Asghar, Campus In Charge COMSATS University Islamabad, expressed gratitude to CMG for organizing the event. He shared that the program offered students firsthand exposure to Chinese culture, innovation, and social values, enhancing global learning and mutual respect among youth.

Ms. Wang Bing Xia (Iffat), Representative of CMG Urdu Service, presented key highlights from a documentary on Xizang, showcasing the region’s cultural richness and inspiring development journey.

The “Understanding Xizang” event served as a celebration of China’s cultural diversity and development vision, while further strengthening the spirit of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect between the people of Pakistan and China.
